In second grade this week, students are learning how to save their work. They are using the KidPix program to create trees using drawing tools, shapes and the fill bucket. Next they are practicing typing skills by labeling the leaves, branches, trunk and roots. Each student will save their work using their name on their own computer. This year, the Kindergarten team at SBES has been integrating technology into their curriculum by ending each month with a project that showcases student work and gives students a chance to reflect on what they've learned. I recently had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Degnan and Mrs. Palazzolo's class as they orally presented their well-crafted and beautifully illustrated haiku. Today Mrs. Donovan's class finished an ongoing video project in the computer lab titled: "because I said I would." The students wrote and illustrated promises they made to themselves for this school year. Hearing these thoughtful students speak those promises aloud in the video is truly inspirational. Last Thursday, the talented students at channel CH1 created a video for Stony Brook Elementary's first character trait: respect.
